In an era marked by slavery and systemic racism, Lewis Latimer rose to become a pioneering electrical engineer whose contributions still impact our world today.

Born in 1848 to formerly enslaved parents, Latimer defied the odds and carved his path through grit, intellect, and innovation. He played a crucial role in improving Edison's incandescent lightbulb by developing a longer-lasting carbon filament.

His work helped bring electric light to more homes and recognition to Black excellence in STEM.

☢️ The Curies and the Discovery of Radioactivity

Marie met Pierre while searching for lab space as a student in Paris. Pierre, already known for co-discovering the piezoelectric effect, was intrigued by her intellect and drive. Their shared passion for science soon transformed into love, and they married shortly after.
