Get used to using software.

In STEM, you’ll run into situations where you’ll need to do large volumes of tedious calculations—like computing standard deviations for large data sets in lab or doing a full page of algebra manipulations for an integral. These calculations aren’t necessarily difficult but long and busy; so unless you’re in math class or told to compute it by hand, its important to use software to calculate the solution in a fraction of the time.

There are many different software programs you can use but familiarize yourself with at least Microsoft Excel since that requires no coding background and is standard practice everywhere.

Remember, math serves science—not the other way around.

The hardest part about math isn’t the raw calculations: it’s understanding what the math means when rearranging and graphing functions.
