🤖 NSF to Launch $100M AI-Programmable Cloud Lab Network
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is set to invest up to $100 million in building a nationwide network of AI-enabled “programmable cloud laboratories” — facilities designed to automate and accelerate scientific discovery. These labs will allow researchers to remotely run custom, AI-programmed experiments, starting with biotechnology and materials science.
The initiative, led by NSF’s Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships, supports the White House AI Action Plan and aims to integrate AI across every stage of experimentation.
By reducing trial-and-error, increasing efficiency, and improving data quality, the network could dramatically speed up breakthroughs in fields that rely on complex lab workflows. The program will also expand access to advanced labs for education and workforce training, with up to six awards of $5 million annually for four years to academic, nonprofit, and industry partners.
Tip of the Day

☀️ Put Summer Research Before Summer Classes
It’s tempting to knock out a class over the summer, but internships and REUs can give you skills, connections, and credentials that last far longer than a single course credit. Here’s why you should prioritize them:
Build Experience That Stands Out: Employers and grad schools notice hands-on projects more than another line of coursework. Research or internship work can directly translate into resume-ready achievements.
Network With People Who Can Open Doors: Professors, mentors, and peers you meet in a summer program often become recommendation writers, job leads, or collaborators years later.
Test-Drive Your Career Path: A summer program lets you try the real-world side of your field before committing to it. You’ll come away knowing if you love it or not.
Classes Will Always Be There: You can take that course during a regular semester or online. Opportunities like a fully funded REU or paid industry internship often come just once.
